Anchor QEA is leading a consulting team to provide a diverse range of on-call technical services to the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (Corps) for the Puget Sound Nearshore General Investigation. The Corps and the Puget Sound Nearshore Ecosystem Restoration Project (PSNERP) are developing a Sound-wide restoration plan. Anchor QEA is supporting the Sound-wide analysis of changes in shoreline and watershed conditions between current and historic (late 1800s) habitat conditions. In this role, Anchor QEA has compiled or created Sound-wide datasets for an extensive suite of ecosystem stressors and prepared a spatial database structure that allows for data analysis at multiple spatial scales. Anchor QEA is also a contributing author to the Strategic Needs Assessment Report, which will describe a problem statement for the Puget Sound ecosystems and identify strategic restoration approaches and opportunities to restore ecosystem functions. This work requires thorough understanding of marine, estuarine, and riverine ecology, organization of large datasets, advanced geographic information system (GIS) mapping capabilities, and attention to detail. Future phases of work will include the preparation of a Final Feasibility Report with the goal of obtaining Water Resources Development Act authorization from the U.S Congress.
