Located in the southeast corner of the City of Everett, the 846-acre “marshland” area consists of diked farmland adjacent to the Snohomish River within the 100-year floodplain. Anchor QEA was selected by the City of Everett to prepare a Marshland Subarea Plan. The plan will include evaluations and recommendations regarding future land uses and potential projects for wetland preservation, fish and wildlife habitat protection and restoration, active and passive recreation, agricultural use, and utilities and transportation infrastructure. The boundaries of the subarea plan include the 846 acres within Everett city limits, and a 247-acre sliver of land between the city limits and the Snohomish River that includes land owned by the City of Everett, Snohomish County, and private land owners. The project involves working with a diverse stakeholder group of City of Everett and Snohomish County staff, agricultural property owners, dike district staff, tribal representatives, environmental groups, and state-level environmental agency staff. An integrated State Environmental Policy Act/Growth Management Act environmental review document will be prepared to comply with state regulations, in conjunction with the subarea plan document, which will provide a road map for land use planning.
