Coastal Engineering

Hancock County Marsh Living Shoreline

Anchor QEA provided engineering design, permitting, and construction assistance services for a living shoreline project that involved preserving and protecting existing habitat while providing areas of secondary shellfish productivity.

The restoration project consists of three restoration components, 6 miles of living shoreline using a segmented rock breakwater, 46 acres of subtidal reef, and approximately 46 acres of marsh.

Habitat Restoration and Mitigation

Port of Seattle Wetland Mitigation and Habitat Conservation Umbrella Bank

The Port of Seattle (Port) is proposing to develop a joint wetland mitigation and habitat conservation umbrella bank (bank) to provide compensatory mitigation for three separate sites totaling approximately 60 acres.

The bank is a unique opportunity to restore crucial habitat for federally threatened Chinook salmon, providing important natural resource values and habitat functions within the largest economic engine of the Puget Sound region.

Construction Management

Scorpion Pier Reconstruction

The National Park Service (NPS) replaced and relocated Scorpion Pier and its access road to improve park operations and visitor experience and provide safe access to Santa Cruz Island—the most visited island in Channel Islands National Park.

The project addressed the deficiencies with the pier and road by creating a new pier and access road approach in a better location. In addition, the project design included features to address flooding and future projected changes in sea level without the need for a full replacement, and it accommodated construction on an island and in a volcanic rock environment.
