Anchor QEA Welcomes Dr. Todd Bridges
Engineering With Nature® pioneer bridges the worlds of science, policy and practice to help create more resilient communities and infrastructure

SEATTLE — Anchor QEA announced today that Dr. Todd Bridges, one of the nation’s most recognized experts in nature-based solutions and resilient infrastructure, has joined the environmental science, engineering and consulting company. Drawing on leadership roles spanning government, academia and the private sector, he brings a rare perspective that connects people, disciplines and institutions to shape environmental decision-making and drive progress.
“I’m fortunate to join a firm that shares my belief that science and engineering can create value for people and nature together while I continue working with the outstanding students and colleagues at the University of Georgia,” said Bridges. “What has always stood out to me about Anchor QEA is the commitment to bringing leading science and practical problem-solving together for clients, communities and the environment. By joining this exceptional team, I can help turn big ideas into action and make a difference today and tomorrow.”
Bridges has more than 3 decades of experience in research, engineering and environmental science. This includes 30 years with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, where he most recently served as the Army’s Senior Research Scientist for Environmental Science. While with the Corps, he founded the internationally recognized Engineering With Nature® initiative, which promotes infrastructure solutions that work with natural systems to deliver environmental, economic and community benefits.
As Professor of Practice in Resilient and Sustainable Systems at the University of Georgia College of Engineering, Bridges maintains an active role in research and educating future leaders while bringing the latest advances in environmental science and engineering to Anchor QEA’s clients.
“Todd has challenged our profession to think differently about how we solve environmental and engineering problems throughout his career,” said Anchor QEA CEO Po Chen. “We’ve had the privilege of collaborating with him for many years to deliver projects that have helped shape the future of environmental restoration and resilience, and I’m so excited to see what we’ll accomplish together for our clients, our communities and the environment.”
In his government, academic and consulting roles, Bridges has helped shape the evolution of natural infrastructure practice through research, field applications and partnerships. In addition to spearheading the development of the Engineering With Nature initiative, he led a 5-year international effort that produced the International Guidelines on Natural and Nature-Based Features for Flood Risk Management.
At Anchor QEA, Bridges joins an industry-leading team of scientists, engineers and planners dedicated to helping clients solve complex environmental challenges and create value through the company’s “4Rs” framework of remediation, restoration, resilience and revitalization. His expertise in nature-based solutions and collaborative approaches complements the firm’s growing leadership in resilient infrastructure, beneficial use of dredged material and waterfront transformation.
He will also contribute to Anchor QEA’s thought leadership initiatives and cultivate partnerships across academia, government, industry and communities.
Bridges has authored or coauthored more than 100 publications and has received numerous professional honors, including the Distinguished Presidential Rank Award in 2021 recognizing exceptional leadership and accomplishments in federal service. He is also a prominent member of the Western Dredging Association (WEDA) and serves on its Board of Directors.
Bridges earned his bachelor’s degree and master’s degree in biology from California State University, Fresno, and a PhD in biological oceanography from North Carolina State University.
